This one’s Chachi’s fault ;).
I’ve been fighting the urge to write about the whole Tookie Williams situation. I have been trying to keep my little place in blogland off of that because I have huge opinions about Tookie and Tookie-like folks and I really have enough going on in my life right now that I don’t need to give myself an aneurysm over hot button issues. I just want to relax when I hang out here, and I want you to as well.
However, you know me. I’m all sweet and stuff, but I have a mouth on me and I like to sound off.
So, I decided to resurrect a vintage editorial from my previous website, “Smell the Coffee”. This was my political and moral commentary site from about 5 years ago. Don’t go looking for it, it’s not up anymore because the host suddenly started trying to extort me out of a hundred bucks a year if I wanted to keep it up (I must have been generating too much traffic to be free ;D) and so I disabled it. But I did keep many of my rants saved to a disk. So I went hunting for it.
Alas and alack, I didn’t save that one. Too bad. I was on fire that day and didn’t mince any words. So in short I’ll just say, Goodbye, Tookie, and Good Riddance. It’s all well and good that you used your time in the clink to inspire inner city youth to turn their lives around and all, but you killed 4 people. You founded a gang movement that led to the deaths and living misery of only God knows how many others. The time for your redeeming reform was before all that happened.
Fear not though, Piece of Crap - you've left a legacy that will continue to spread like an aggressive cancer long after you're gone. Thanks!
Some people tell me I have no compassion. To them I say “Pththth.” My compassion lies with the victims and their families. Who, by the way, don’t get clemency from their fate. If you want to argue with me, feel free, but please let me know if you’d feel the same mercy if he had the blood of YOUR children spattered across his smug face.
Okay, I’m done. Sorry about that diversion from my typical warm and fuzzy meditations. :) Off to work now! It’s snowing and sleeting here today – Everyone else dealing with the same mess, drive safe!

It's very easy for people to be forgiving when it doesn't directly involve them or their families! I know we are supposed to be always asking "WWJD", but I am a mother and grandmother and sometimes I fall very short of being more like Jesus. This is one of those times!
I cannot, of course, speak for Jesus, but I do not believe that anywhere in the bible does it ask us to forgive murderers. "Thou shalt not kill" is the first commandment, and Tookie violated it many times over. Now it's up to God to do the forgiving, as I believe it should be.
BTW: I've looked over other posts here and I think you have a great blog. Look into the comment section of your last post.
I'm sorry - I meant the post before that one. The one on discipline.
Asta La Vista Tookie!
I don't know much about the issue beyond the occasional story I've skimmed through, but I agree with you. He took four lives and that's just something that can never be forgiven or compensated for, no matter how much good you do after. Those deaths will live on and haunt those families for decades. What really annoys me is their names will soon be forgotten; his won't. That's just wrong.
No matter who agrees with your or disagrees with you my friend, no one can debate what a wonderful gift you have with words.
I'll just say I am against the death penalty, BUT, I was against IVF too until I needed it.`
Justice is Justice. This was simply the right thing to do. God have mercy on his soul.
Although I'm against the death penalty, I am glad that Tookie wasn't pardoned.
And regardless of whether he's "turned around," he still should (and did) receive the consequences of his actions.
Yes... justice was surely served.
I'm against the death penalty, but until it is my call...
How in the HELL was he sitting for 20+ years? The guy killed 4 people, was convicted, and a court determined death was warranted, so why wasn't his head given a lead injection 20 years ago?
I have no comment on the death penalty. But, I will add that if one lives by the sword, one should be willing to die by the sword. He chose to be around violence. He claimed he was innocent. I'm not here to judge whether or not he was innocent or guilty. But, he did choose to be in places and participate in activities that made him look guilty. He lived by the sword. So, in the end, he received back the seeds he planted.
Amen sista....I'm with you. Tookie actually got a lot less than he deserved.
I could play the devil's advocate and say he who hasn't sinned... but that would be too cheap and easy.
I agree with almost everyone here -the rest of you know who you are
;-) But should we be acting all bloodthirsty the killer got his comeuppance? As someone said, it will not bring back the victims. And in this world we know that forgiveness and not justice is what is really the hope for us. If everything was completely just in the world, none of us would be here now.
