For hundreds of years people have wondered why Mona Lisa is smiling. What is triggering this mysterious facial burst? What anomalous thought pattern was Da Vinci trying to channel? Well rest well tonight, for we now know!
The Mona Lisa has been evaluated by the latest in technological wonders - an emotion recognition software program, a collective development by researchers of the University of Amsterdam and the University of Illinios. And get this: They have concluded that she's smiling because she's happy.
WOW! Can you believe that? Thank goodness this study was performed. Who would have ever come up with that on their own?
Whew.

This is truely a new and amazing concept! The one I heard (or rather saw) just today she was making faces during the sitting for the portrait! I'll explain when I can chat with you.....
Happiness?! Wow...who'd have thunk it?
I think I'm back...finally! Thanks for hanging in there with me, clew!
Hugs!
LOL...wise ass! ;)
Amazing the things we waste time & money on isn't it?
I think she's smiling because she made her own Christmas cards and made her best friend jealous! ;)
LOL! This made me laugh until I cry. Honest. I think it's tears of joy because it was so-o-o-o-o funny; but I'm sure those same researchers would conclude they're tears of sadness. I know, I'lll save the tears in a dixie-cup and maybe we can scam a research grant for them. I'll split it with ya 50/50.
Too funny! I love that.
hahahah.. is it just me or -- does she not really look like she's smiling?
So, is this where our taxes are going? What's next? - Why is the guy holding a pitchfork in the painting titled "American Gothic"? Let me save y'all some time and money....could it be because he's a farmer? Duh.
You are so funny! I am laughing my butt off right now.
Well. At least it is settled.
How wonderful that the great minds of our time have been put to work on such important issues!
And yet, there will always be controversy... ;-)
I loved the History Channel's segment on Da Vinci. He was truly an amazing man. It was thought that Mona Lisa was a work in progress to never be finished. Sort of like how you love someone and you never stop.
